A three-station solar radiation network
Reference-grade pyranometers and sunshine duration sensors at three stations, reporting to a single web portal.
Solar radiation is one of the hardest surface measurements to keep honest. The sensor has to stay level, clean and calibrated through heat, dust and monsoon rain, and a gap in the record can never be filled afterwards.
What we installed
Each of the three stations carries a spectrally flat pyranometer for global horizontal irradiance and a separate sunshine duration sensor, wired to a data logger that stores every reading on site before it is sent on.
- Kipp & Zonen SMP22 smart pyranometers
- Kipp & Zonen CSD3 sunshine duration sensors
- LogBox SE data loggers for acquisition and local storage
What the department sees
Readings from all three sites arrive in a web portal we built for the network. Staff can compare stations, check that each site is reporting, and export the record for analysis, without visiting the stations.
What we stayed for
Mounting, levelling, cabling and commissioning were done by our own field engineers, and the portal was written by the same team, so there is one party to call when a number looks wrong.
